Majas nro.36 - Lee Miller
Elisabeth Miller knew what it meant to be on both sides of the camera; muse first of Edward Steichen who launched her modeling career, and then of the great Man Ray, she had a childhood that was anything but ordinary. Born on April 23, 1907 in Poughkeepsie in the state of New York daughter of Florence and Theodore Miller, she remained their favorite child throughout her life, despite being the second of three brothers. Before becoming a source of inspiration for the biggest names in contemporary photography, she was the muse of the one who brought her into the world. Theodore Miller had a real passion for the photographic medium and made the young Lee his favorite subject. Although the context was not that of old Europe but of the United States in turmoil for the beginning of the roaring twenties, the shots that Theodore took of Lee at an early age could not be considered usual, and are still clouded by an aura of mystery about the true nature of the relationship between the father and the daughter.
